Dear parents, teachers, students, and community members,

I started my career as a teacher at a high school in New Orleans.  My class had 50 students on the roster, but on any given day only 25 students would attend my class.   That was the norm-- and no one was fighting to change it.

I decided then to dedicate my career to making change for students and families.   Since then I have worked to raise expectations for all students and to expand the number of excellent public schools in every community.

Most recently, I served as a senior leader of a network of public charter schools serving 90% low income students where families are valued as partners in their children’s education, teachers are a source of inspiration and opportunity for our students, and students are challenged to be critical thinkers and agents of change.

Since then I have worked to raise expectations for all students and to expand the number of excellent public schools in every community.

My husband and I send our 7 and 9 year old to our neighborhood LAUSD school. We walk our kids to school each day and we’ve been grateful for the  amazing teachers they have had. Our daughter and son are thriving. Our 4th grade daughter comes home excited to write her next chapter about bats, bees, or her newest insect obsession.

I want this experience for every student in every neighborhood in LAUSD, kindergarten through 12th grade.

My 18 years of experience in education combined with my perspective as a parent are unique.  The LAUSD School Board needs an advocate who will push for change with the perspective of a parent and the knowledge of an educator.  The stakes are high. Our kids and families deserve the best, now.

I hope I can count on your vote.  Together, let’s bring excellence, equity, and innovation to every public school and neighborhood in this district.
